SOMETHING FUNNY GOING ON IN EASTERN TRUCKEE

Over the last few weeks, there has been a lot of activity along the eastern edge of our community. An application has been filed with Nevada County to create two 30+ acre parcels at the start of Martis Peak Rd, one of which is already under contract to sell. And right next door, the old Robison property that is sandwiched between Glenshire Dr. and Canyon Springs is under contract to sell. Coincidence? Possibly, but regardless the sale of these parcels threatens our access to protected open spaces.

Robison Property
Currently there are three trailheads along Glenshire Dr. that lead to Canyon Springs, crossing the Robison Property. Should this property be closed off or turned into a subdivision, half of Glenshire and the adjacent communities would be forced to seek alternative access points to Canyon Springs.

Martis Peak Properties
The application to create two properties at the start of Martis Peak Rd, one of which will sell pending the approval of this application, will cutoff Canyon Springs from properties bordering the Truckee River, severely restricting future efforts to connect our communities to the Truckee River at Hirschdale.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Share your concerns with our partners at the Truckee Donner Land Trust, the steward of Canyon Springs. If you are a member, contact the Glenshire HOA Board members. Let them know how important it is to retain access to Canyon Springs, and to expand protected lands all the way to the Truckee River.

Let your neighbors know what is happening and ask them to signup for our newsletter to stay informed.

Come to our Celebration of Canyon Springs event on May 30 to learn more and do more, and bring your neighbors with you.

PETITION DRIVE IS A SUCCESS

As of this writing, 629 people have signed our petition to encourage the preservation of open space access and wildlife habitat in this amazing community. This level of support has exceeded our goal and given the SOS Glenshire organization the motivation and energy to continue our work to Protect Open Space and Wildlife in Eastern Truckee.

This petition sends a powerful message regarding what we value as a community: the ability to access open space for our own wellbeing, be it an hours-long adventure or a short stroll; and the expansion of protected open space for the health of ourselves, our community, the plants and animals around us, and the environment we all share. We are currently working to deliver this powerful message to our non-profit partners, Town of Truckee and Nevada County officials, and area land owners. We believe this will have a positive impact on their decision making when it comes to land use planning in our community.

Additionally, we would like to thank those of you who donated to SOS Glenshire during this petition drive. You donated over $3,000 to help us advocate for Saving Open Space around Glenshire, and to help fund land preservation.

FUELS REDUCTION PROJECTS COMPLETE

The Truckee Fire Protection District has largely completed a fuels reduction project in Canyon Springs, on open spaces tucked within the residences of the greater Glenshire area, and on properties surrounding the eastern portion of Glenshire Drive – see the below maps for specific project areas. This project has provided critical fuel reduction and improved forest health to protect the community of Glenshire and improve the evacuation route to Hirschdale Rd. in the event of a wildfire. You can learn more at www.truckeefire.org/projects or contacting Truckee Fire at 530-582-7888 or projects@truckeefire.org.
