Information on the Town’s Survey and Workshop:
The Town of Truckee is offering a virtual workshop and survey asking for community input for future land use alternatives in five focus areas in the town. Glenshire is Focus Area #5 at the end of the survey. Although all focus areas are important, if you don’t have time for the complete survey, please at least respond to this part. It includes two areas in Glenshire:
- Eastern Town Limits: Although, there is no active Canyon Springs development application, (the past proposal was withdrawn in August of 2018), the town is considering zoning this area to include 200-300 homes. The options don’t reflect the opinions of the Glenshire community. In 2015, 300 community members attended the Canyon Springs hearing requesting no development due to traffic and congestion issues, evacuation concerns, greenhouse gas emissions, the existing and active wildlife migration corridor, etc. SOSG and the community has been advocating for Open Space for many years! If you agree, choose “other” and explain your opinions!
2.In an area near the Glenshire General Store, the survey choices are: re-zoning for a mix of commercial and residential, retaining the existing zoning of commercial, or Other.
This is the chance for the community to give their opinions to the town about how much and what type of development is appropriate in the future. Please let your voice be heard!
If you want to do more….
As mentioned above, The Truckee Town Council will hear a Progress Report on the General Plan Update on Tuesday, 7/28. If you want to let the Council know your thoughts on this survey, or your thoughts on the best uses for the “Eastern Town Limits” (formally Canyon Springs) site, you may send an email to email@example.com and/or leave a voicemail up to 3 minutes in length at 530-428-6555. Council members will be given the emails and voicemails will be played aloud.

PLEASE NOTE: There is no active Canyon Springs development application, the past proposal was withdrawn August, 2018.
SOSG continues to monitor all information available about the Canyon Springs property. We encourage everyone in the community to stay involved with all proposed development in the Town.
According to the Town of Truckee, the proposed Canyon Springs housing development project is on hold while the project applicant continues to work on a modified project proposal. The Town states the public will be notified when the project is ready for re-consideration, and the public will be able to attend and/or provide comment.
It’s important to keep the many issues this project proposes in the public eye. Please help us spread the word to all Truckee residents! An effective way is to write letters to our local newspapers – an easy method would be to submit portions of your comment letters or public hearing comments.

Join us next Thursday, November 5, from 6 to 7:30 pm, at the Glenshire Clubhouse for a community meeting with SOS Glenshire and MAP in advance of the final Planning Commission hearings. We will be providing updates and coordinating our canvassing and speaking campaigns, and we appreciate community involvement!
The final hearing on Canyon Springs is Monday, November 16 and Tuesday, November 17, 6pm Truckee Town Hall, and we need your presence to help us tell the Truckee Planning Commission why Canyon Springs, as proposed, is inconsistent with the Truckee General Plan, why it’s bad for the environment and wildlife, and why it’s wrong for Truckee. Whether you’re willing to speak or not, we need your support at the meeting. Please plan to join us there on both nights!
This isn’t isn’t just about Glenshire — it’s about our vision for the Town of Truckee, and whether we want to set a precedent for sprawl, traffic, fire hazards and irreversible wildlife impacts. Please help us spread the word to all Truckee residents!
SOSG & MAP do not support the Canyon Springs 185+ unit project as proposed. It will bring unavoidable & detrimental environmental impacts to the Truckee region.
The Final EIR Hearing is expected to be November 16th & 17th, 6pm at Town Hall.
SOSG & MAP will host a Community Update & Action Meeting November 5th, 6pm at the Glenshire Clubhouse.
